Into Your Hands
While it was painted much later, this painting best represents my 'loss of mind' phase from the early to mid 1990's. It is based on people I have known throughout my life that all seemed to be reaching for intangible things and ideas without truly reaching out to each other... all except for one young, bedraggled girl in a dirty, oversized man's singlet tied at the waist with an old school tie. Despite her ragged look, she remains as the personification of purity and innocence, reaching out to US for embrace.
The actual painting was done in response to inner turmoil but took on a totally different meaning when it was the main work in a major joint exhibition titled 'Visions: when differences unite'; an exhibition that had its very empty Opening Night on the 11th of September 2001... a date simply known today as 9/11.
